Do you want to know the secret to faster weight loss?
Our ancestors, the hunter-gatherers ate twelve pounds of food each day while staying thin and healthy. No obesity. No chronic disease like heart disease, diabetes, cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.
What was their secret?
How is fiber the secret to faster weight loss… and reversing diabetes?
It’s actually quite simple. Fiber slows the rate at which food enters our blood stream and increases the speed at which food exits your body through the digestive tract. That keeps your blood sugar and cholesterol in ideal balance, quickly eliminates toxins from your gut and reduces your appetite.
There is a special complex carbohydrate that acts in the body like a “super” fiber that is much more powerful than regular fiber.
It’s called UCAN SuperStarch.
SuperStarch was originally designed by Scottish researchers in the treatment of a rare genetic disorder called glycogen storage disease, which is characterized by an impaired ability to convert glycogen to glucose in the liver. Newborns with glycogen storage disease need to be fed a frequent source of carbohydrate to maintain blood glucose levels or else they risk experiencing severe hypoglycemia and ultimately death.
The development of SuperStarch (derived from non-GMO corn) evolved from an innovative product discovery for a food that could provide up to ten hours release of energy (as glucose) for children with Glycogen Storage Disease, and for Diabetics who frequently experience episodes of low blood sugar during the night.
The Research Behind SuperStarch
Since this discovery, two peer-reviewed scientific studies have confirmed that ingestion of this cornstarch is superior to conventional treatments in preventing hypoglycemia over extended periods of time in subjects with Glycogen Storage Disease.
SuperStarch uniquely stabilizes blood sugar, causes no insulin spike, improves fat burning and is gentle on the stomach.
Over 9 million Canadians have impaired blood sugar control.
We know that obese individuals are at high risk of type 2 diabetes and even before developing full-blown diabetes exhibit insulin resistance and inflammation resulting from persistent high blood sugar levels and high cholesterol.
Obesity is associated not only with diabetes, but also cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and osteoarthritis. It’s also directly linked to greater overall risk for mortality.
I know from working with patients that diet and lifestyle changes can be challenging. Combining dietary and lifestyle changes with a new medical food called Ultra Glucose Control, which contains the key ingredient, SuperStarch, has dramatically improved results for patients.
And, the results I’m seeing in practice, have been confirmed through studies as well.
A new randomized study demonstrated that 16 weeks of intervention with Ultra Glucose Control, in combination with a structured dietary plan, resulted in significant improvement in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c, a biomarker reflecting the average blood glucose levels over the previous 3 months) and body weight in overweight/obese patients with type 2 diabetes compared with the dietary plan alone.
UCAN SuperStarch® is a key component of the diet featured in the randomized control trial and is a critical piece of the formula that sustains a healthy blood glucose response.
The Product I Use in Practice
Ultra Glucose Control contains 15 grams of UCAN SuperStarch® per serving in combination with a high-quality prebiotic dietary fiber in a blend known as MetaRelease®.
In addition to UCAN SuperStarch® and MetaRelease®, Ultra Glucose Control:
- Is designed with a 40-30-30 ratio-balanced combination of macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates) to manage glucose response
- Delivers 15 grams of high-quality pea and rice protein along with added branched-chain amino acids
- Delivers 22 essential vitamins and minerals
- Available in chocolate and vanilla flavors in both 14-serving and 30-serving sizes
In another study, conducted by the Functional Medicine Research Center (FMRC), Ultra Glucose Control was shown to balance blood sugar levels more effectively compared to oatmeal, and two popular commercially available products: Glucerna and LifeCore Complete.
At this point, you know my favourite kind of “super fiber” is SuperStarch. I specifically use this product in our Blood Sugar Balance Blueprint Program, one of our keystone wellness programs at Wellness Blueprint Health Centre.
Here are a few additional ways to boost your fiber intake and utilize this awesome secret to faster weight loss:
- Add 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds a day to your food. Get a coffee grinder and use it only grinding flax seeds. Grind 1/2 cup at a time and keep it in a tightly sealed glass jar in the fridge or freezer. Sprinkle on salads, grains or vegetable dishes.
- Eat beans if you can tolerate them (all forms of legumes).
- Bulk up on vegetables – with almost no calories, high levels of antioxidants and protective phytochemicals, these excellent fiber sources should be heaped on your plate daily.
- Include a couple servings of low-sugar fruits to your diet daily (berries are the highest in fiber and other protective phytochemicals).
- Include a few handfuls of nuts and seeds like almonds, walnuts, pecans or hazelnuts, pumpkin, chia and hemp to your diet every day.
Start slowly. Switching abruptly to a high-fiber diet can cause gas and bloating. Increase slowly until you get up to 50 grams a day.
So, there you have it… the secret to faster weight loss.
