You are perfectly made.

No matter what you've been told, no matter what label you have been diagnosed with, please know this: you are perfectly made.

There is a lot that the mainstream system does not understand about chronic illness and mental health. We no longer live in an age of predominantly infectious disease, yet we're still treating people as if we did. What we thought of as a disorder, pathology or diagnosis of what's "wrong" is a limited view of what's really happening. 

At the Wellness Blueprint Health Centre, we believe we must change the way we view both chronic illness and mental illness.

​What if chronic illness and mental illness are actually appropriate responses from the body to cope brilliantly with the underlying, unhealed and unresolved imbalances (ie mental, emotional, and biochemical trauma)?

Major depressive disorder then becomes... major depressive response.

Post traumatic stress disorder... post traumatic stress response.

Irritable bowel syndrome... irritable bowel response.

Hypothyroidism... hypothyroid response.

What if there is nothing wrong with you?

What if the symptoms you are experiencing are wise responses from your body trying to get your attention... not some random disorder that then becomes your identity?

Your diagnosis is not your identity.

You are not broken.

You can heal.

You are doing such a great job.

You are not alone.

You are loved.

We are one of your biggest supporters.

Preventing disease is the most difficult and foolish of health strategies.

Yes, you read that correctly. ​

We ​believe prevention is as foolish as "fighting" disease. For example, do you really want a cure for cancer? In order to benefit from the cure you need to have the disease first. 

What we ​focus on... we create more of.

That's how our subconscious mind works.

It's said that one who has his/her health has a million dreams. One who does not have his/her health has but one dream: to be healthy.

With health comes freedom.

Freedom to be who you want to be, to do the things you want to do.

When you have freedom you can create impact in your "little corner of the world." Create a ripple effects to those around you, your loved ones. Be an example to those you care about.

Our "What"

Your cells are a perfect representation of your mindset, environment and lifestyle.

Think about this: would buying a new car make you a better driver?

Probably not. Likewise, giving you new cells won't make you a healthier person.

Nothing can fix your body better than it can fix itself. That principle underlies our "​WHAT" - what we do help you address the mental, environmental and lifestyle factors that are acting as obstacles to your body healing itself.

How you're feeling is how you're healing.

For example, have you felt better while on vacation? What changed? Your genes didn't change. Your diet didn't change (perhaps was even a little worse). Your environment changed.

There are several needs common to all people, regardless of the disease or pathology ​they have been labeled with:

We all need to belong.

We all need to believe that we matter.

We all need to have our experience, our feelings, acknowledged.

Without those basic needs being met we cannot heal.

We help people meet these needs.

There is no system of health care that can save us from ourselves.

Our "​How"

​​Be the hero of your life.

​What if I told you there is a basic framework, a roadmap that anyone can follow in order to reach a state of Radical Well​being?​

Well, there is.

And that's our "​HOW" - the action steps ​we teach our patients that constitute the makeup of our wellness programs. The journey our patients take ​which we have the privilege of walking alongside and witnessing.

It all starts with the hero's journey.

My hero's story goes something like this...

Status quo. A "normal" girl living a "normal" life. The summer after graduating university, working as a personal support worker to save up money to attend medical school (a dream of "helping people" I had since I was child).

My experience at that local nursing home shifted my perspective. 

Sitting in on the nurse's meetings, hearing about how residents were placed on a medication to lower their blood pressure... ​only for it to drop too low. Being placed on another med to counter that side effect. "There had to be another option," I thought.

Noticing how the residents that received more visitors generally were healthier, happier. Noticing how the residents who were more active, getting themselves down to social activities regardless of aches and pains, generally were healthier, happier.

​There had to be ​another option than this conventional approach.

Good ole' Google led me to the website for the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) and the Principles of Naturopathic Medicine.  That's it! That's the approach I'm looking for.

​Against the advice of many in my life at the time, I chose to become a Naturopathic Doctor instead of a Medical Doctor. It was my opportunity to do something different, to pursue a purpose bigger than myself.

​After committing to that path I was faced with many trials I had never faced before in the previous comfort of my old life. The long hours of studying, being away from home and the whole mindset I had around ​that took its toll on my health.

​By the time I was set to graduate CCNM I was exhausted, depress​ed and had poor digestive health. I also had never really addressed the social anxiety and social isolation I experienced even prior to attending post-graduate school. You can hear more about my story here.
