What makes the Wellness Blueprint so different?
What makes us different is our patient. What makes us different is YOU. The approach we take is centered and personalized around you, the individual. We go beyond analyzing lab work to take into consideration your environment, your relationships, your communication styles, your vocation, etc. We go much deeper than the typical intake you would have experienced. We ask our patients, “WHY do you want to get healthy? WHAT do you want to do with that health?” It’s a patient-centered approach.
Who is the best fit for the Wellness Blueprint program?
The first step is aligning core values. Our core values are : 1) We don’t treat any diseases. We co-create health. 2) Virtually all disease starts and ends in the gut and 3) The patient ultimately determines the outcome. The value of our appointment is when the patient leaves the office and takes action. Therefore, if someone wants to manage a very specific disease they’re likely not a good fit – they can go see their family medical doctor. If someone is looking for a quick fix, they’re likely not a good fit for this program. We’re looking for people who are willing to put in the necessary time and effort into their health.
Can I come see you for a specific disease?
Yes. What we try to educate patients around is that we’ll take a holistic approach to your health. No disease occurs in isolation. For example, someone with diabetes doesn’t just have diabetes. There will be other imbalances occurring. Therefore, if we just focused solely on treating the diabetes it would be a disservice to the patient. The worst thing we could do is just treat the diagnosis. That myopic approach has a huge downside. By taking a global approach – one that is personalized to addressing the individual’s unique root causes – we can create health for you… and part of doing that will result in improvements in regards to the diagnosis / label.
Do I need to be sick to receive care from you?
No. The beauty of the process we take with patients is that it will benefit you even more when you’re healthy. We can take your health to a whole new level. It’s like the difference between seeing a mechanic versus a tuner. You can see the mechanic and fix something that is broken. Or you can see the tuner and say add more horsepower – ie make your car even better. We love working with patients who are healthy and are looking to optimize their health to fuel their passion.
Why do I need to be “ready”?
This isn’t something you can do passively. It takes action. We’re all works in the progress… however, in order for there to be progress there needs to be work. You can’t be less committed than we are to get you healthy. YOU determine the outcome. YOU determine the result. If you’re not ready you’re not going to get the results we want for you and you’re not going to get the results you want for yourself. We’re interested in helping people live their best life. Just because you pay us doesn’t mean you’re going to get a result. You still need to take action.
I’ve seen so many other practitioners. Why haven’t I seen results from them and why would you be any different ?
First of all, we feel compassion for your experience and what you’ve been through. We say this lovingly… most often it’s because the patient is relying on the practitioner to fix them. If you’re shopping from doctor to doctor to find a “better doctor” we encourage you to pause and ask yourself, “How could I become a better patient?”
This is not to say all patients in this situation don’t take ownership for their situation, however you may be doing things very myopically. For example, say you change the type of food you’re eating but you don’t change the stressful environment you’re eating it in, or you don’t change the fact that you’re consuming the food very quickly, or if you’re not feeling grateful for the food that you’re eating or being mindful about why you’re eating what you’re eating. It’s like adding premium fuel in a car that’s headed in the wrong direction. Even though you have the best fuel you’re not going to get where you want to go because you’re not considering these other factors or taking a holistic approach. This is why, paradoxically, that people that eat “like crap” and have no digestive issues because they don’t have any stress, they are grateful for that they eat, etc. You need to look at all the factors that impact the healthy diet in addition to eating the healthy diet.
Our goal is to empower you rather than create dependency.
I already have a laundry bag full of supplements. I don’t want another supplement. Will I just get more from you?
We can use drugs to treat a disease. Supplements can be used in the same way. You can be put on a supplement to treat a disease. For example, you have a thyroid diagnosis and you’re put on a “thyroid protocol.” We do things differently.
Have you heard of the “pop and pray” approach?
We don’t prescribe anything before we’ve done testing. We don’t guess.
We look at how your cells are functioning, how your mitochondria are functioning, your detoxification system, your microbiome, brain health and methylation, stress hormones, etc… we do a more broad-based set of tests to examine things from a global perspective. Remember, no system in your body is working in isolation.
We actually want to detach you from that label. We want to focus in on YOU and create a patient-centered protocol not a disease-focused protocol.
The other danger with supplements is that, for example, I put someone on a natural supplement for high blood pressure, it’s actually doing them a disservice because we’re not getting to the root cause(s) of why they developed high blood pressure in the first place. If someone has a toxic relationship or a toxic work environment and we put them on adrenal support… are we not supporting their “worst life” and not their “best life”? The patient may feel better while they’re taking their supplements but then they’ll feel the same way they were before once they stop the supplements.
The other danger is making the assumption that it’s only affecting the one system. You’re taking a supplement for your thyroid because you have they thyroid diagnosis, but it doesn’t address what’s likely also gone out of balance in your gut, liver, brain, etc.
What kind of testing do you do? How much does testing cost?
We offer a range of testing, however there are four core tests that we most commonly utilize with patients. These include a comprehensive stool analysis, organic acids test, hormone test, and genomic testing. It’s individualized for each patient – one patient may not need any tests, one may just need one of the test, someone else may need a comprehensive list of testing. We first do a thorough assessment which includes our 47 page intake form in order to identify which tests are going to be most beneficial to you.
Most of the testing is done at home (ie you collect the samples at home and send them postage paid directly to the lab). Test fees range from $75 to $800. It all depends on the type that is best for you.
Our promise to you: We won’t over-test. And, more importantly, we will never under-test. We’re going to do what’s right.
What’s unique in our clinic… you receive direct / wholesale pricing. We don’t act as a “middleman.” There is no mark-up fee on your tests. We recommend that, in general, you budget $500 to $1000 for testing. We’re going to spend your money the same way that we would spend our money.
47-page intake form?! Why is your intake form so long?
Our New Patient Intake Form is designed to not only help us, but to also help you. Birth health, social history, dental history, vaccine history, drug history, past medical history, family history, nutrition, stress… we look at all these factors to identify “blind spots” that are specific to you. It saves you time and money because it prevents us from going down a “rabbit hole” that’s not going to lead anywhere. The longest form you ever fill out should be a form regarding your health. Would you trust someone with your health who is asking you to fill out a one page form?
What kind of care am I going to receive?
Your care is going to be more than just taking supplements. It’s going to involve making lifestyle changes, environment changes. You have access to community workshops to further support you in between visits. Along with direct email access to Dr. Esposito, ND so you don’t have to physically come in for an appointment every time you have a couple of questions. Emails don’t replace consultations, however we respect your time and recognize that you don’t need to come in to receive a quick answer to your question. Convenience helps keep the momentum going.
What should I expect at the initial consultation?
At your initial consultation you will be given an opportunity to discuss your personal health goals with Dr. Esposito, ND. This will be an opportunity for you and her to identify if you are a good candidate for our services.
How much is the initial consultation?
The initial consultation is $299. We apply your payment to the total cost of the program that is the best fit for you and therefore you are paying into the program when you schedule your first appointment.
Should I bring anything with me to the initial consultation?
We ask that you bring any pertinent medical records, supplements, medication and lab test results with you. If you are not the financial decision maker, we ask that you bring your significant other with you to the consultation.
How long is the initial consultation?
Expect the consultation to last for 60 minutes. If you are a good candidate for our care we will go over the test kits and some paperwork to get you started. This will be an addition 15-20 minutes. We value your time and do our best to provide a timely service.
Can I just get the testing done?
Are you a do-it-yourself-er? Unfortunately, it’s this kind of mentality that gets us into trouble. If Michael Jordan said, “I don’t need a coach. I can do this all myself” how far do you think he would have gotten? Dr. Esposito, ND has mentors, including a functional medicine practitioner. If health was just about ordering a lab test it would be super simple. It’s only about 20% of the picture… the other 80% is additional factors like environment, community, mindset… factors that the lab testing can’t speak to.
We do not offer a-la-carte testing since this goes against the paradigm of functional medicine. If we are going to address the root cause of your health issues, we will need to take a more comprehensive approach. We only work with patients on a case management basis in one of our programs.
Do you accept insurance? Is testing covered by insurance?
No, we do not accept insurance for our consulting services. Functional lab testing is usually not covered by most insurance providers.
Insurance only covers the face to face interaction – the in-person consultation. We believe that everything we do outside of the consult (which sets us apart) is often even more valuable to you. The workshops, the accountability calls, the online programs, the analysis that goes into your test results, recording lab interpretation videos for you, and on and on. Those kinds of services are ignored by insurance.
Everyone that comes to us has had access to insurance-based services their entire life. If that approach was working, why is there a need then to come to us? Insurance dictates what treatment is most appropriate for that diagnosis. It limits the services offered to the patient. For example, if there is someone who has been diagnosed with diabetes that has a gut infection that is dysregulating their insulin production… well the medical doctor can’t treat the infection because is insurance would question how that relates to the diagnosis.
Our program is not covered by insurance because that actually serves the patient. Anything that is covered by insurance is more expensive. “Hey, the patient isn’t paying for this directly, we can mark it up to increase our profits.”
Would you pay $900 for a pair of glasses if insurance wasn’t covering the bill? (Or at least a large percentage of it.)
Our goal is to make our care effective and cost effective. You’re going to get results because “you’ve got skin in the game.”
Do I still need a primary care physician?
Yes, we do not provide acute care services and we do not replace the services that your current medical team provides. We provide a stand-alone service.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes. We recommend that your first appointment is done in person so we can meet with you and make sure we’re a good fit for each other. If that’s not possible, we can do your appointment on the phone or video conference so we can more be engaged and help you along the process.
What happens at the end of the program?
Once your initial program is complete, we will re-evaluate your case and determine your best steps moving forward. To ensure your continued personal growth and development we may offer a variety of different programs to meet your needs. These may include:
- Ascension – this annual program includes continued online support and 4, 1-hour appointments – $1499
- High-Performance Coaching – This is a 90-day personal mastery program that includes weekly calls – $2999
- Mindset Mastery – This is a program tailored towards helping reset your subconscious programming – $1499
Can you help me come off X medication?
Dr. Esposito, ND will not tell you to come off any medication as she is not the prescribing physician. What we will help you to do is get to a place where the medication is no longer needed.
Is the program difficult?
The goal is to meet you where you’re at. Progress over perfection. You’ll get out the program what you put into it. It doesn’t have to happen over night – in fact, for a chronic health concern, it’s unrealistic to believe it will. That’s why our programs are 6 to 8 months long. And you’ll still be making small changes over a life time.
